Carrasco to have Tommy John surgery

Carlos Carrasco
The Cleveland Indians announced today that right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco will undergo Tommy John surgery in New York next Wednesday (9/14). He is expected to be out for 12-14 months while he rehabs from the surgery and builds himself back up to pitch again in the big leagues. He will more than likely not pitch in the big leagues in 2012.

Carrasco, 24, had been on the disabled list for right elbow inflammation, an injury which originally occurred back in May. He returned from the injury after a few weeks only to have the discomfort return and go back on the disabled list in early August. In 21 starts for the Indians this year he went 8-9 with a 4.62 ERA, and in 124.2 innings allowed 130 hits, 40 walks, and had 85 strikeouts.
