First baseman Jordan Brown was put on the disabled list with a left knee injury and first baseman Michael Aubrey has been promoted to Buffalo. At this time, no word on who will be replacing Aubrey in Akron, although there is a strong possibility it could be outfielder Stephen Head coming off the disabled list.

Aeros Take Suspended Game, Fall in Game 2

BOWIE, MD – David Huff turned in seven sterling innings as Akron claimed the resumption of a suspended game 7-3 in Bowie, but the offense stalled in the nightcap as Bowie won 3-1. The Aeros now stand at 12-15 on the year, while the Baysox are 15-13.

Huff was armed with a 5-1 lead when the clubs resumed a game that originally began April 20th. He then proceeded to retire the first 12 batters he faced, and got some insurance when Nathan Panther rocked a two-run homer to straightaway center field in the seventh to make it 7-1. Bowie got those two runs back in the bottom of the inning on a two-run blast by Ben Davis, but Huff made sure that was all the Baysox would get as he didn’t allow a runner past first base the rest of the way. The left-hander improved to 1-1 with the win, holding Bowie to two runs and five hits in seven innings. He walked one and tied a career-high with eight strikeouts. Chorye Spoone (2-1) allowed five runs (four earned) in 2.1 innings before the game was halted and suffered the loss.

Runs were at a premium in the nightcap, with the teams playing to a 1-1 stalemate through five and a half innings. Bowie got on the board first with a sacrifice fly from Lou Montanez in the bottom of the third, but Akron answered on Panther’s fielder’s choice in the top of the fourth. The Baysox broke the tie in the sixth inning however, as a walk and a double put runners at second and third with no one out. Shawn Nottingham induced a grounder with the infield drawn in for the first out, but Ryan Finan followed with a roller through the hole on the right side to score both runs and lead Bowie to the victory.

David Hernandez (2-1) got the win in game two, allowing just a run and three hits in 6.1 innings. Nottingham (0-2) took the loss, allowing two runs and three hits in 2.1 innings. Julio Manon got the final two outs for his eighth save in nine chances.

The series continues Saturday at 7:05 p.m. as Frank Herrmann (3-1, 3.77 ERA) takes the hill for Akron opposite Bowie’s Jason Berken (1-2, 2.70 ERA). The game broadcast begins at 6:50 p.m. on SportsRadio 1350 AM and online at http://www.akronaeros.com/.

Kinston Gets 7-4 Victory Over Lynchburg

The K-Tribe scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning, coming back and beat Lynchburg 7-4 Saturday night in Virginia. Kinston trailed 4-2 in the top of the sixth inning, when Beau Mills and Jared Goedert led off the inning with walks. Nick Weglarz dove in Mills with an RBI single to make the score 4-3. Cirilo Cumberbatch delivered the big hit in the inning, a two RBI single driving home Goedert and Weglarz. Two batters later, Alex Castillo added his second RBI of the game with a single to make the score 6-4. Mills added the final run of the game with an RBI single in the top of the ninth. Eight of the nine K-Tribers in the lineup racked up at least one hit on the night.

The K-Tribe bullpen took it from there as Neil Wagner, Josh Tomlin and Luis Perdomo provided five innings of no run ball from the pen. The trio struck out eight and did not walk a batter. Wagner (1-2) picks up the win, Perdomo notches his fourth save of the season.

The K-Tribe takes on the Hillcats for the deciding game of the three game series Saturday night at 7:05pm. Hector Rondon gets the start for Kinston.

CAPTAINS GAME POSTONED ON FRIDAY

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains game against the Greensboro Grasshoppers scheduled for Friday has been postponed due to inclement weather. The game made it through one inning before the rain began. The game will be made up when the Captains travel to Greensboro next week. Fans with tickets can exchange them for any other regular season game based on availability. Tickets must be exchanged in person at the Ticket Office or the National City Ticket Information Center prior to entering the gates for another game. The Captains host the Kannapolis Intimidators on Saturday with Game time at 7:05 PM. The Captains send LHP Kelvin De La Cruz to the mound (1-1, 2.25) against the Intimidators Charlie Shirek (1-2, 1.61). The Captains and Intimidators will play a five game series to be played over four days with a doubleheader slated for Sunday.
