I can't see Ness, Harris or perhaps Alvarado getting released. Harris has too much value in being able to fill in anywhere at any time. Ness has too live of an arm to be bumped and I think I still have an Alvarado crush because I was a Tadano fan...

Yeah, I could very well see any of those players staying in the system. However, there will be some surprising cuts this spring, as 25-30 some players will be released. Gonna be some names on there that surprise everyone...

Pestano, Eisenberg and Judy in extended!? meanwhile, Miller and Morris in lake county? doesn't fit the profile to me

Some of these guys have already been released and there are maybe a handful of guys listed on roster that I'd expect to be cut. Pretty good list, but it is just such a crap shoot.

Tony, I'm curious about Sean Smith in the bullpen. He had kind of a ho-hum 2007, I know, but he at least held his own in AAA at a relatively young age. What suggests to you that he's a relief candidate? And who gets his slot in Buffalo's rotation?

Ryan Morris is all but certain to be in LC. Was there last year some, and viewed with higher upside. Miller is a possibility too.

Really, any of Pestano, Eisenberg, Judy, etc could be at LC. There are about 20-25 pitchers who have a legit chance to make that team, but only 12 will. Gonna see some shrewd cuts too.

Regarding Sean Smith.....I think he is dealt by the end of camp. Just too many starters in Buffalo. He was rumored to be the PTBNL for Jamey Carroll a few months back, so that could still happen.

If Smith is not traded, then I see him in a swing role in the bullpen sort of like where he was last year to start the season. With Miller, Laffey, Sowers, Lofgren and Lewis in the rotation, it pushes Smith out and into that swing role. There is a possibility Lofgren could start in Akron, and if that happens then Smith could move into the rotation....although it could also go to Slocum instead.

Man, some interesting roster issues from Buffalo to Lake County which will start to shape up soon. I'll report on what players are playing with what teams when I get to Winter Haven in three weeks to watch the minor leaguers.

you think zocchi will shake out in single A?

In all honesty, who knows about Zocchi. I am of the belief he will remain in EST and start in Mahoning Valley....but I think things are so open for the Lake County staff that some of the 2007 Draft picks are bound to trickle on there. I mean, there are some guys from the DSL that may get a looksie to start the year in Lake County who I did not even consider. Definitely hard to sort out things at that level due to so much grey area with the recent draft picks and holdovers from last season.

I've really been following the Indians closely the last few years, and I really enjoy getting my media guide and watching some games at Akron and Mahoning Valley. I've been hoping to find a site with this kind of information, and tonight, my prayers were answered. This is a great site...I"ll be sure to buy a copy of your book.

Jason, thanks, and I appreciate the kind words. If you are interested in a copy of the book, email me at tlastoria@gmail.com.

anybody hear of a lefty Mark Rodrigues who pitched in Mahoning Valley last year, how is his spring training going this year?

I saw Rodrigues today. Even got a video clip of him that I will post later.

How's he looking and where do you see him come regular season.

I'd really like to see the video clip of him.

ow is Adam White progressing. I know he was a speed demon at WVU?? How does he look???

Rodrigues.....here is the link for the video of him in action:

Right now, aside from a small handful of starters at Akron, the pitching staffs at Akron, Kinston, and Lake County are wide open. I think Rodrigues has a good shot to start in Lake County. If not, then he'll be in extended spring and may start in Mahoning Valley and then finish the last month or so in Lake County.

I have only really seen Adam White in practice....reminds me a lot of a Dave Roberts type on the basepaths. A heady baserunner with a gift of speed, and a pesky and annoying guy on the bases for a pitcher. The question with him is if he will hit. I believe he is set to open as the starting center fielder at Lake County. I shot some video of White in the batting cages today, so be on the lookout for that in an update in the next day or so.

Do you know what happened to Ramon Alvarado? I've known him since his days at the A's and it would be sad to see such talent not move ahead... Wasn't able to follow him much after he was traded for Kaz Tadano

You have Goedert at Akron and Kinston. Is it Chaves at Akron?

Oops. Thanks for the heads up. That is a typo....yes, Chaves at 2B in Akron. Fixed.

Just wondering if u think TCrowe will ever make an impact in the majors?

On Crowe....yes, I think he will be a quality player. Not impactful, but a good piece of the puzzle. Sorta like say Melky Cabrera is for the Yankees. Just a solid ballplayer. Crowe has a back issue right now, so it will be interesting to see how he comes back from it. Disc issues can become chronic and ruin careers, so it will be interesting to see what he does when he comes back. He is in extended spring training right now rehabbing. I talked to a scout last night, and their org rated Crowe as the second best player in our system last year.
