Greetings From Woodbridge, VA

Well, got to see Kinston in action tonight in Woodbridge, VA against the Potomac Nationals. It was not much of a game that will leave a lasting impression that's for sure. The team got in late because of their 16 inning game the previous night which delayed their bus ride this morning from 8am and pushed it back to 11am. So, they got in at a little after 5 o'clock. The looked a little tired and road weary, and it showed tonight.

Starter Paolo Espino was bombed for 10 runs in 4+ innings of work. He just had trouble with everything. Couldn't locate his fastball or any of his secondary stuff. When he got his fastball over, it was crushed. Just one of those nights. But, I attribute a lot of it to the long layoff. Besides bullpen work, this was his first "game" in about two weeks. Gonna take a little while for this team to get it going, and when they do, look out. There is just too much talent here.

The big news of the night was an injury to outfielder Nick Weglarz. In his fourth at bat of the game in the 7th inning, he swung at a pitch and just crumpled to the ground. He limped off the field, and after talking to him and manager Chris Tremie after the game it is an ankle sprain. He was taken out of the game for precautionary reasons, and they will re-evaluate him tomorrow. Hopefully it is a mild sprain, but in any case, he may be out a few games at least. I actually have video of the injury which I will upload in a few days after I get home.

I had a chance to interview starters Carlton Smith and Paolo Espino, as well as talk to reliever Matt Meyer and utility player Jerad Head. So be on the lookout for those interviews in the coming week. Also talked to Tremie, and likely will include his comments in my weekly wrap on Thursday or in the articles I do on the players.

Next weekend, I'll be in Lake County.

What is the latest on Sipp?

Nothing new on Sipp from what I last reported about three weeks ago in spring training. Still on track for a late-June return. Could go on a rehab assignment sometime in May.
