Around the Farm: December 1

Steven Wright
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here is the rundown of what Indians players in winter ball did yesterday.

Panama Winter League
  • Steven Wright (SP, Chiriqui Roneros): 6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 2 K. Well, thanks to a site reader I was finally able to track down a site for the Panama Winter League which tracks the stats and has box scores for each game. MLB does not compile stats or provide box scores for the league so it makes it hard to get the information, and on top of that the site is in Spanish so translating the stats can be difficult. But in any case, from what I was able to decipher Wright once again had a very good game with 6.0 shutout innings. As expected he has been pitching well in Panama as I have heard he was also named to the All Star team there. Right-handed pitchers Toru Murata and Danny Salazar are also on his team, and Lino Diaz from the Indians’ Player Development Department is one of the coaches….and former Tribe player Einar Diaz is the manager.
Colombia Winter League
  • Giovanny Urshela (3B, Cartagena Tigres): 0-for-4. Finally some stats and box scores from the Columbia Winter League where only Urshela is the only Indians’ player participating. The information is limited as I am still tracking down how he has done so far, but it is good to see him get in some extra games this fall/winter since he really underwhelmed this season at the plate at Low-A Lake County.
Venezuelan Winter League
  • Ezequiel Carrera (CF, Navegantes del Magallanes): 1-for-4, 2 R, RBI, BB, SB. Carrera has hits in 8 of his last 10 games and is hitting .288 over that span. That’s not much to write home about, but it is a noticeable improvement compared to the slump he was in two weeks ago.
  • Jesus Aguilar (1B, Leones del Caracas): 1-for-5, R, 2 K. Aguilar has shined with the power and on-base skills this fall, but one area that is still concerning is the 23 strikeouts in 78 at bats between the AFL and Venezuela.
