Rivero Named Carolina League POTW

Kinston Indians shortstop Carlos Rivero is the Carolina League Player of the Week. The 20-year-old Rivero hit .429 (12-28) during the last week of the regular season, hitting two home runs and racking up nine RBI. The Player of the Week Award caps off an amazing August for Rivero who hit .356 in the month with four home runs and 21 RBI. Rivero ends the season with a .282 batting average, eight homers and 64 RBI.Rivero is the fourth K-Tribe player to take Carolina League Player of the Week honors in 2008. Niuman Romero, Jason Denham and Cirilo Cumberbatch also grabbed the award earlier this season.

We are going to have to agree to disagree on Rivero/De La Cruz placement on the prospect list. For a player who has not broken out yet, at least powerwise, and is the youngest of Kinston's 88's, I think his ceiling is at least as high as De La and he is more advanced. But whoever it is, it really is great to see such young high ceiling talent on one level, most of which is headed for AA. next year.

Rivero is certainly a top 10 level player......going to be interesting to see how this listing shakes out. Literally 15-17 guys who are Top 10 worthy. Tribe system jumped BIG TIME in quality from this point last year. Should be a Top 5-7 system in baseball next year.
