Indians Acquire Mark DeRosa, Trade Jeff Stevens

No official word on this at the moment, but the Indians have traded minor leaguers RHP Jeff Stevens, RHP Chris Archer, and LHP John Gaub to the Chicago Cubs for infielder Mark DeRosa. No word on who the other prospects are the Indians are giving up, but it sounds as if the deal is in fact centered around Stevens.

Let's see who the others are involved, here. I can live with dealing a reliever prospect. Good stuff, Mr. Lastoria, thanks.

Thanks. Done deal from what I have learned. Stevens and DeRosa for sure....other players involved are unknown.

I think Shapiro was paid off by BA to blow up your prospect rating book...

I'm probably OK with it, as long as DeLaCruz and Huff aren't part of the package too.

Nice. Let's just see Shapiro get us a #3 starter for Shoppach and that's a great offseason.

PD posted John Gaub & Archer w/ Stevens. What do you think Tony? Archer could be very good if he can cut done on the walks. I remember you talking about Gaub but cant recall waht you had said.

Whether you like the deal or not, this shows the commitment of Dolan and Shapiro to winning in 2009. They have added payroll again and this offseason has been one of tradeoffs. If they have enough bucks left to pull of a MOR pitcher, then Shapiro goes from an outstanding offseason to the best the tribe has had in years.

After the trade, 2009 payroll now is at about $81-82M after Shop gets arb deal and we give the $400K to about 10-13 min players.
