Sipp News

Someone had asked why left-hander Tony Sipp was on the Dominican Winter League roster but had not pitched yet. With league play wrapping up this weekend and him not playing, I figured it was rather odd he would go out there and not play, so I poked around and found out why he is not pitching. Apparently, he did not even go to the Dominican Republic because he was experiencing some shoulder discomfort, so the Indians wanted to be cautious and just shut him down.

That's surprising to hear, especially after he was supposedly 100% when the season ended. Hopefully it is nothing serious and he can go into next season ready to go as this would be a big blow to him and the Indians bullpen depth next year.

Hi TL,
I was having some problems understanding the interest in Orman until this. The Indians feel their situational position against LH hitters is suspect without being able to count on Sipp's availability this year. I arrive at some conclusions which may make some sense. I would guess that they do not believe Rundles is ready but aren't willing to let him go yet. Jackson may be the long man but I would guess they do not feel he can handle situational work. He might also be part of a trade.

I am having a little more difficulty with the Nelson rumor unless Shapiro is cashing some relief chips along with his others in an effort to fill the #3 slot in the rotation.

If Dennis is around and reading this, I would be interested in his thoughts as well.

Yes, this is a serious blow to the depth of the bullpen if this turns out to be serious. Hopefully shutting him down and rest corrects the issue, but this is very similar to the situation with the elbow when he said he had some discomfort and they shut him down for 3 months and then he came back and then he had to have TJ surgery. Hopefully it is just tendonitis in the shoulder and nothing more.
