Around the Farm: January 8

Andrew Campbell
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here is the rundown of what Indians players in winter ball did yesterday.

Australian Baseball League
  • Andrew Campbell (2B, Brisbane Bandits): 1-for-3, BB, K, PO. You can’t stop Andrew Campbell…you can only hope to contain him. That’s how ABL pitchers have to feel of late as he now has a 10-game hitting streak and in those ten games has an impressive .359/.457/.487 with 5 RBI and a 7-6 walk to strikeout ratio.
  • Mitch Nilsson (C, Brisbane Bandits): 0-for-3. Nilsson has had an opportunity to play more regularly of late starting 7 games since December 29th, but has not capitalized as he is only 5-for-22 in those 7 games.
  • Ryan Battaglia (C, Brisbane Bandits): 0-for-1, K. Battaglia is the other half of the Indians’ catching duo playing on the Brisbane team in the ABL and is now just 2-for-13 at the plate with 4 strikeouts.
Venezuela Winter League
  • Jose Lopez (DH, Caribes de Anzoategui): 1-for-3, K. Lopez is still nursing a minor injury and was limited to DH duties on Sunday. He got a hit in the 7th inning but was lifted for a pinch runner, likely to help preserve his health and not risk anything, especially considering his team was losing 9-1 at the time.
