Soto, 19, has spent the entire season to date with Class A West Michigan, going 6-6 with a 2.61ERA in 16 starts (82.2IP, 75H, 29R/24ER, 25BB, 76K). In each of his 16 starts this season, he hasn't allowed more than three earned runs. His best start of the season came on June 16 against the Lake County Captains when he pitched a nine-inning, complete game shutout (3H, BB, 7K), his second complete game shutout of the year. The Midwest League mid-season all-star is currently tied for first in the Midwest League with two complete games and ranks second with a 2.61ERA.
Soto, a 6-4" left-hander, owns a career minor league record of 10-6 with a 2.10ERA and one save in 29 games/22 starts (128.1IP, 108H, 36R/30ER, 45BB, 113K) over two seasons after being selected by the Tigers in the 21st round of the 2009 June draft. The Carolina, Puerto Rico native was tabbed the Tigers Gulf Coast League Pitcher of the Year in 2009 leading the league in ERA (1.18) going 4-0 in 13 games/6 starts (45.2IP, 33H, 7R/6ER, 20BB, 37K).
Peralta, 28, concludes his 2010 Indians campaign hitting .246 (82-334) with 23 doubles, 2 triples, 7HR & 43 RBI in 91 games (.308OB/.389SLG/.698OPS). In his career he is a .264 (906-3435) hitter at the Major League level with 201 doubles, 103 home runs and 456 RBI in 923 games over eight (8) seasons since debuting with the Indians in June of 2003.
Valbuena was on the Indians Opening Day roster and hit .166 (25-151) with 13 runs scored, 6 doubles, 2HR and 14RBI in 49 games with the Indians before being optioned to AAA Columbus on June 24th. At Columbus he has hit .313 (30-96) with 8 doubles, 1 triple, 6HR and 20RBI in 25 games with a OPS of 1.032. Over his last 5 games, Valbuena has gone 8-20 (.400) with 8 runs scored, 3 doubles, 3HR and 8RBI. He wears #1.
The 40-man roster now stands at 39.

Any thoughts where Soto would fall within the Indians prospect rankings? Top 30? 40?
No idea right now, still in info gathering mode. I don't believe offhand he is a big upside prospect.
neither was Josh Tomlin.
I'd be shocked if Detroit gave up anyone they felt had real upside (even if only in A ball) for Peralta. Although the inclusion of cash from the Indians probably allowed them to get a better level prospect than they otherwise would have received.
Also, have to say I'm disappointed that Valbuena is coming up and not Goedert. But also have to admit that Valbuena seems to have earned it- he's been on fire ever since they sent him to Columbus. Did he get back to a better approach there, just more comfortable, or just lesser competition?
