AFL Update: Weglarz Out, Fedroff In

Indians outfielder Nick Weglarz has been shut down and removed from the Peoria Saguaros roster out in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) because of recurring pain in his left leg as the result of a stress fracture in his left shin area that he suffered back in early August.  He has not played in the AFL since Tuesday October 27th, and in eight AFL games he hit .240 (6-for-25) with 0 HR, 1 RBI, and a .704 OPS.  He also had seven strikeouts and seven walks.

Weglarz had surgery yesterday to put a rod in his leg in order to help stabilize it and help the fracture heal.  He had been making slow progress from the leg injury, but in talking to him out in Instructional League about three weeks ago he mentioned that there was still some discomfort and minor pain but that he couldn't injure it any further by playing on it.  The pain continued to remain and was substantial enough where corrective measures were taken which resulted in the surgery yesterday.

It is an unfortunate setback for Weglarz, though if anything positive can be taken out of it at least the surgery was performed now and he has almost four full months to recover from it before the start of big league spring training at the end of February.  He is expected to be out of baseball action for the next six weeks where he will need the next two weeks for recovery from the surgery and then another four weeks to rehab the leg.  He is expected to be 100% for the start of spring training.

With Weglarz out, Indians outfielder Tim Fedroff has been added to the Peoria Saguaros roster and in his first two games went 1-for-9 with an RBI.
