Today the Cleveland Indians and manager Manny Acta have announced the hiring of Tim Tolman as Major League Bench Coach, Scott Radinsky as Major League Bullpen Coach, and Steve Smith as Major League Infield and Third Base Coach.

Tolman, 53, has recent ties to the Indians organization, serving as the club’s Minor League Field Coordinator over four seasons from 2003-06 before joining Acta on the Washington Nationals Major League coaching staff (3rd Base Coach) in 2007 and 2008. Smith, 57, has been an infield and third base coach at the Major League level for eleven seasons with the Seattle Mariners (1996-99), Texas Rangers (2000-06) and Philadelphia Phillies (2007-08) and has 33 seasons of professional baseball experience under his belt since beginning his playing career in 1976. Can it be assumed that the 1st base coach will also be the outfield coach? Does Lovullo still have a good chance at making the staff at that position?

Yeah, 1st base coach should almost definitely be an outfield coach and I am thinking will be someone from outside the organization. Think the hitting coach will likely be Nunnally and the only reason no formal announcement has been made is because he is out in Venezuela and Acta has not gone out there yet to talk in person with him. Supposed to be out there soon.
