Indians and Brewers Complete Trade

The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have acquired RHP OMAR AGUILAR from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for LHP CHUCK LOFGREN. Aguilar will report to minor league camp in Goodyear, AZ in the coming days.

Aguilar, 25, spent the 2009 season between Brevard County (A) and Huntsville (AA). He went a combined 3-1 with a 4.72 ERA and 14 saves in 41 relief appearances (55.1IP, 52H, 29ER, 27BB, 70K). Following the season Omar pitched in nine games for the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League (7.11ERA, 12.2IP, 16H, 10ER). He also spent the 2009 season and most of the 2009-10 off-season on Milwaukee’s 40-man roster before being outrighted off the roster on January 6.

The Merced, California native was originally selected by Milwaukee in the 30th round of the 2005 draft out of Merced Junior College. He owns a career minor league record of 13-9 with 40 saves in 136 games/6 starts (186.0IP, 147H, 80ER, 104BB, 215K). In 2008 he went 3-0 with a 0.35 ERA and 13 saves in 19 games while holding opponents to a .155 batting average while being named a Florida State League All-Star. Omar committed to play at Oklahoma University before signing with the Brewers.

Lofgren was selected by the Brewers with the 11th pick in the 2009 Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft. In 2009, he was a combined 9-11 with a 4.15ERA in 25 starts between AA Akron and AAA Columbus. He is now property of the Milwaukee Brewers and can be assigned to any level.

From what I've heard, he's been clocked at 100.

100! Why don't the Brewers want him? Command problems?

Command? Look at his K/BB! the poor guy can proobably throw it to a wall but has a marginal familiarity with the location of home plate. But good for Chuck. He deserves an opportunity to get to the show and he was just too far down the line in Cleveland. I wish him well. Definitely a class act.

Aguilar is a big power armed guy. He's short but stocky with a mid 90s fastball with a slider. Plus arm strength, yes, and a very nice fastball, though I am unsure if he ever clocked at 100 MPH. I'll try and verify that one way or another.
