Indians Send Three More To Minor League Camp

Today the Indians reduced their spring training roster by three players.  Infielder Jason Donald and third baseman/first baseman Wes Hodges were optioned to Triple-A Columbus, and third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall was reassigned to minor league camp.  Big league camp currently has 46 players.

What does it mean when a player is reassigned to minor league camp instead of being optioned to Columbus or Akron? Does this mean they aren't sure where they are going to send Chisenhall?

Well the player will be optioned when they are on the 40 man roster, and they are "reassigned" to minor league camp since they can't be optioned to the minors and are not on the 40 man.

Yeah Chad, what GoTribe said is right.

In a nutshell, when players on the 40-man roster are sent to the minors they are "optioned" as they are on optional assignment as a guy on the big league roster. Players who are not on the 40-man roster who were spring non-roster invitees are simply reassigned to the minors since they are not on the 40-man roster.
