Marte To DL, Crowe Recalled

The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has placed infielder Andy Marte on the 15-day disabled list with a non-baseball medical issue. To replace Marte on the active roster the Indians have recalled outfielder Trevor Crowe from AAA Columbus.

So far this year, Marte is batting .208 (5-24) with 4 runs scored, a triple, a home run and 7RBI in 15 games. This will mark Marte’s 2nd career trip to the disabled list at the big league level.

Crowe was optioned to AAA Columbus on March 31 after batting .257 (9-35) with 4 runs scored, 3 doubles and 6RBI in 12 games this spring in big league camp. So far this year at Columbus he is batting .244 (29-119) with 21 runs scored, 4 doubles, a triple, a home run and 13 RBI in 29 games. He has also stolen 6 bases in 7 attempts. Last year Crowe, the Indians 1st round selection (14th overall) in the 2005 draft, made his Major League debut with the Indians and batted .235 (43-183) with 22 runs scored, 9 doubles, 3 triples, a HR and 17RBI in 68 games over 3 stints. He wears #4.

The Indians now have 2 players on the Major League disabled list (A. Reyes & Marte).
