Around the Farm: November 3

T.J. McFarland
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here is the rundown of what Indians players in fall and winter ball did yesterday. Note, the Dominican Winter League was off yesterday.

Arizona Fall League
  • Carlos Moncrief (LF): 0-for-3, BB, K. Moncrief’s second game in the AFL and he is still looking for his first hit as he is just 0-for-6 so far though he does have 3 walks.
  • T.J. McFarland (SP): 4.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R/ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 0 HR. You won’t see very many starters go over 4 innings in the AFL. It was a struggle all day for McFarland as he threw 82 pitches and only 43 of them went for strikes.
Venezuelan Winter League
  • Rob Bryson (RP, Bravos de Margarita): 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Bryson came in and faced one batter and struck him out before being removed from the game. He has now made 6 appearances and thrown 5.1 innings and allowed 1 earned run.
  • Luis Valbuena (2B, Cardenales de Lara): 1-for-5, 2 R. Valbuena continues to fade after a strong start in Venezuela as he is now hitting .194 in his last 10 games.

Bryson and De La Cruz sure aren't being given much of a chance to stretch out this winter.

Yeah, they are kind of at the mercy of their winter teams which are trying to win. A lot different from the minor leagues. Always tough for inexperienced minor leaguers to get in there. De La's usage makes sense as a bullpen role is what he is going into and possibly even a specialist role....but Bryson has had limited opportunities.
