Veras out, Todd in

The Indians have announced that RHP Jess Todd has been called up from Columbus. To make room for Todd, RHP Jose Veras has been designated for assignment.

Doesn't this open a spot on the 40-man roster because Todd was already on the 40-man?

In fact, according to the Indians 40-man roster on Indians.com, they only technically have 35 guys on the 40-man roster right now (as with the DFA of Veras there are 38 with 3 players on the 60-Day DL).

Is this correct? Do we technically have five 40-man spots? I realize Westbrook will take one at some point, but that's a lot of spots that could be filled soon.

They're going to need a lot of spots this winter- there are quite a few guys in the minors who are eligible for the rule 5 after this season (good prospects, not "just guys"). If I'm not mistaken, the 60 day doesn't exempt a player from taking a 40 man spot in the off season, so it could get real interesting come Nov/Dec.

Tony, maybe at some point you could update who is eligible for the rule 5 (particularly in regards to all the new guys brought into the org)?
