Crowe Up, LaPorta Down

The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has recalled OF Trevor Crowe from the AAA Columbus Clippers. To allow room on the Major League roster the Indians optioned OF Matt LaPorta to Columbus.

Also, yesterday OF Tim Fedroff was activated from Kinston DL and OF Matt Brown placed on DL with left knee patella tendon strain

They obviously weren't going to give Matt La Porta regular at bats in Cleveland...so, it's better he goes to Columbus where he can play every day and get into a rhythm.

Not only that Tim, but he just wasn't hitting well in general.

Zaj...Still...is 40ABs enough for a 1st-time major leaguer?

Doesn't he need to play more than 2or 3 times a week for a few weeks in order to make an adequate judgement?

It's not like the Tribe is going to win the 2009 World Series. So, why not give their #1 power prospect a real shot? Or, why bother to bring him up at all til they are ready to give him a decent opportunity?

Why take a chance of messing with his head?

If you are not going to play him regularly, this is the right move.

But, the fact they were not playing him regularly is puzzling to me and makes little sense. It's not like it is Lofton, Belle, Ramirez in the OF these days.
