Even though Lake County's game was suspended tonight, with Delmarva and Greensboro both losing their magic number decreased to 1. Lake County has clinched a tie for the division and just needs to win one of their remaining three games or have Greensboro and Delmarva lose one of their last two to win the division outright. Aeros and Sea Dogs Suspended Friday
AKRON, OH – Friday’s game between the Akron Aeros and Portland Sea Dogs at Canal Park has been suspended due to inclement weather. The game will resume as part of a doubleheader Saturday, June 14 at 6:05 p.m. The suspended game will finish in nine innings and the second game will be a seven-inning affair.
Fans with tickets to Friday’s game may exchange them at the Canal Park ticket offices for any future 2008 Aeros home game. Friday’s fireworks show will be made up Thursday, July 10, following a game against Bowie. That game has a 7:05 p.m. start time.
In the suspended game the Aeros trailed the Sea Dogs 1-0 in the top of the third. The bases were loaded against Akron starter Chuck Lofgren with Andrew Pinckney at the plate with an 0-2 count and one out. The Sea Dogs scored in the second on an RBI single by Ryan Khoury.
The Aeros have not announced a pitcher to resume the suspended game, but will send Frank Herrmann (5-3, 5.34 ERA) to the mound in game two against Portland left-hander Dave Gassner (0-0, 3.18 ERA). The game broadcast begins at 5:50 p.m. on SportsRadio 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com.
Kinston falls to Hillcats
Lynchburg scratched the K-Tribe, beating Kinston 8-5 Friday night in Virginia. The K-Tribe bolted out to an early lead when Jared Goedert drove in Beau Mills with a single in the first inning. Kinston would go up 2-0 when Jerad Head scored on a passed ball in the second inning. The Hillcats would take the lead for good in the bottom of the second inning with four runs on four hits, including a two-run home run by Jared Keel. Lynchburg used a solo home run by Alex Presley to extend their lead to five in the bottom of the third. The Hillcats would once again get to Kinston starter Steven Wright in the bottom of the fourth with RBI hits by Greg Picart and Angel Gonzalez, giving Lynchburg a 7-3 lead they would not give up. Mills and Jared Goedert each had two hits for Kinston.
Wright (2-4) took the loss for Kinston, giving up seven runs on seven hits in four innings. Lynchburg starter Michael Cotta (6-4) got his sixth win of the season.
The K-Tribe (34-33) will take on Lynchburg for game three of the four game series Saturday night a 6:05pm. Josh Tomlin will take the mound for Kinston.
CAPTAINS GAME SUSPENDED ON FRIDAY
(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains game against the Hagerstown Suns that was being played on Friday has been suspended due to inclement weather. The game was suspended at the start of the bottom of the second inning with the Captains leading 2-1. The game will be resumed prior to the scheduled game on Saturday at 5:05 PM. Fans with tickets can exchange them for any other regular season game based on availability. Tickets must be exchanged in person at the Ticket Office or the National City Ticket Information Center prior to entering the gates for another game.
The Captains and Hagerstown Suns will play game three of the series on Saturday following the suspended game. The Captains will send LHP Ryan Miller (7-2, 2.07) to mound against the Suns RHP Cole Kimball (Bradley Meyers (2-1, 6.48). Saturday will be a fireworks night at Classic Park with the game beginning at 7:05 PM. The game can also be heard on AM 1330 WELW, WELW.COM or CAPTAINSBASEBALL.COM.
