Third round pick coming up

Melville and Brandon Crawford are still on the board as we approach the Indians' 3rd round pick. My suggestion for the Indians' 2nd round pick, Bryan Shaw, the closer for Long Beach St, went off the board in the second round at 73. I also had him as a possible 3rd round pick in my last post before the draft.

Ross Seaton, Alex Meyer still on the boards as tough to impossible signs. Isaac Galloway, Danniel Webb, Robbie Grossman, Sonny Gray, Zach Putnam and Brett Hunter are still on the board.

You know, if the Indians don't sign this pick they get almost the identical pick next year because they draft so low in the 3rd round. I am taking a shot at Hunter. If not him, Melville. I mean, we need to salvage this draft with some high-end guys and this is the round to start!

And, instead, the Indians select Cord Phelps, a second baseman from Stanford. Now, this guy is really highly rated being the 73rd best prospect in the state of California....that we selected the the 107th OVERALL pick in the draft. Here is what BA had to say about him:

After Ratliff, Stanford's best position prospect is second baseman Cord Phelps, who offers a strong switch-hitting bat. One scout compared him to Chris Donnels for his upright offensive stance and swing from the left side, and Phelps may move to third base as a pro. He should have enough athletic ability to stay in the middle infield for a while.

So far this Indians' draft has been a total and utter FUBAR. How any of these guys keep their jobs if this continues is beyond me. In all the years I have been following the Indians' drafts this has to be one of the most ridiculous drafts the Indians have conducted.

Cordy Phelps is the shit dude. Look at his stats, he's not far off from 10th overall pick Jason Castro who also came out of Stanford. Beats Asdrubal Cabrera at least.

Cord Phelps will be in the show in 3 years or less.the indians are lucky to have someone with the work ethic and knowledge for the game like this kid

Phelps is certainly an advanced hitter. He'll most likely start next season in advanced Single-A Kinston and skip Lake County. No doubt, he is someone to be excited about at 2B, a position of HUGE need in the system. Easily the top prospect for the Indians there.
