Also, on Wednesday the Indians have extended their player development contract with Kinston through the 2010 season.

Bisons Score 6 runs in the 9th Inning, Defeats Rochester, 8-7, in 10

The Buffalo Bisons defeated the Rochester Red Wings Wednesday night, 8-7, in 10 innings, despite trailing 6-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. The six-run comeback is the second largest ninth-inning comeback in the team’s Modern Era.

It was nearly 13 months ago when the Herd set the record for their largest comeback in the Modern Era. On May 5, 2007, Buffalo defeated Pawtucket, 15-14, despite trailing the Red Sox, 14-6 in the ninth inning.

Wednesday night’s victory was the Bisons’ second straight over Rochester. The Red Wings held the Bisons to just four singles in the first eight innings of the game while building a 6-0 lead. The Herd then scored six runs on six hits in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. The Red Wings scored a run in the top of the 10th inning, but Buffalo responded with two in the bottom of the 10th for the 8-7 walk-off win.

Brad Snyder had the game-winning hit as he singled over a drawn-in outfield with no outs and the bases loaded in the 10th inning.

Edell Dominant as Aeros Roll 7-1

MANCHESTER, NH – Ryan Edell carried a perfect game into the eighth and Akron never trailed in a 7-1 victory over New Hampshire before 3,077 fans Wednesday night. The Aeros snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 30-26, while the Fisher Cats fell to 22-36.

Akron’s offense staked Edell to an early lead, batting around and scoring three runs in the top of the first. Trevor Crowe opened the contest with a double, and after a groundout Chris Gimenez and Wes Hodges drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with one away. Hot-hitting Bronson Sardinha then stroked a two-run single to center on the first pitch he saw, staking the Aeros to a 2-0 lead. A four-pitch walk to Matt Whitney reloaded the bases, and Stephen Head made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly to center. Another sac fly from Wes Hodges in the top of the second pushed the advantage to 4-0, and from there it simply became a question of whether or not Edell could make history.

The broad-shouldered left-hander did not allow a ball to leave the infield until Ryan Patterson flied to right to end the fourth, and Crowe then opened the fifth with a nice running catch of Jacob Butler’s fly to shallow left. Edell didn’t go to a three-ball count until the sixth, when with two away Brian Jerolomon made a bid to brake up the perfect game with a grounder deep in the hole at second base. Josh Rodriguez ranged far to his left however, made a sliding stop on the outfield grass, and fired just in time to first to nab Jerolomon by a step.

Edell needed only seven pitches to get through the seventh, and opened the eighth with a strikeout of Butler for his 22nd consecutive out to begin the game. Scott Campbell then worked the count full, and after spoiling three good pitches watched as Edell missed up in the zone to draw the walk that broke up the perfect game. Eric Nielsen then singled on the next pitch to break up the no-hitter, and Anthony Hatch followed with a blooper down the left field line on the very next pitch to score Campbell and break up the shutout.

Edell (3-4) allowed just a run on two hits over 7.1 magnificent innings for the victory, walking one and striking out five. Brandon Magee (0-8) recovered from his shaky beginning and turned in a solid start, allowing four runs and six hits in six innings. Shawn Nottingham retired the final five hitters in order to close the game. Sardinha and Rodriguez paced the offense with two hits and two RBI apiece, while Gimenez reached base all five times he came to the plate (three hits, two walks).

The rubber match in this three-game series is set for 7:05 p.m. Thursday, with Kevin Dixon (2-4, 4.37 ERA) going for Akron against New Hampshire left-hander and former first-round pick Ricky Romero (2-3, 6.48 ERA). The game broadcast begins at 6:50 p.m. on SportsRadio 1350 AM and online at

K-Tribe Wins One Has Another Suspended

K-Tribe Wins Suspended Game from Tuesday Night 6-2...then gets second game suspended tied at 3 in the bottom of the seventh.

The Kinston Indians and Wilmington Blue Rocks picked up their suspended game Wednesday night at Frawley Stadium with the K-Tribe winning 6-2 in 10 innings. Luis Perdomo got out of the ninth inning after walking the bases loaded, and Cirilo Cumberbatch hit a tie-breaking grand slam in the top of the 10th to lead the Tribe to victory. Perdomo (2-1) pitched a perfect 10th for his second win and the loss goes to Aaron Hartsock (4-3).

The two teams started game two a half hour later and were scoreless until the fifth when the K-Tribe plated an unearned run. After a leadoff double by Alex Castillo, Cristo Arnal laid down a sacrifice bunt. David Wood fielded the ball at first but threw wildly to third and Castillo scored easily on the error. Blue Rocks Derrick Robinson had a run-scoring single to tie things up in the bottom half.

Kinston answered back in a big way in the sixth with back-to-back home runs by Adam Davis and Castillo. It marked the first time the Indians had long balls in consecutive at-bats all season. Jeff Bianchi led off the bottom of the sixth with an inside-the-park home run to center field. The ball got
past the diving Johnny Drennen, and Bianchi came all the way around to score to cut the K-Tribe to 3-2.

The Blue Rocks tied the score in the seventh thanks to a leadoff single and three straight walks from Mike Pontius. The game was then put into a rain delay and later suspended with the bases loaded and none out.

The K-Tribe and Blue Rocks will pick up the game Thursday at 5:05 pm at Wilmington's Frawley Stadium. The suspended game will be followed by the final game of this rainy four game series.
