The International League today announced that Bisons INF Asdrubal Cabrera has been named the League’s Batter of the Week.
Cabrera hit .394 (13-33) in the Herd’s last eight games, with three doubles, three home runs, six RBI and eight runs scored. He led the International League in runs scored over the week and tied for the IL-lead in hits, extra-base hits (6) and home runs.
Cabrera, who was with Cleveland until June 11, had homered just twice in 266 total at-bats entering this week. He then proceeded to play long ball on back-to-back days Tuesday and Wednesday at Syracuse before adding one more blast yesterday against Louisville. He hit safely in seven of the team’s eight games this week, five of which were multi-hit efforts. Since joining the Bisons, Cabrera has hit .326 (46-141) with seven doubles, four home runs and 13RBI in 34 games.
Cabrera is the second Bisons player to win an IL Weekly award this season. LHP Jeremy Sowers was named Pitcher of the Week on June 2 after going 2-0 with a 0.69ERA in two games the week prior.
