Kinston Falls 8-4
Potomac scored seven runs in the top of the third inning, going on to beat Kinston 8-4 Monday night at Historic Grainger Stadium.
The Nationals sent 12 men to the plate in the third inning, getting seven hits and seven runs against Kinston starter Kelvin De La Cruz. De La Cruz (3-2) was uncharacteristically wild, walking a season high five batters through 2 2/3 innings of work.
The K-Tribe came back late in the game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth on RBI hits from Carlos Santana and Beau Mills. Kinston cut Potomac’s lead to four in the bottom of the ninth inning with RBIs from Lucas Montero and Carlos Santana, before the Nationals closed the door. Lucas Montero had a big night for the K-Tribe, going 4-for-5 with an RBI and a triple. Santana was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, Mills went 2-for-5 on the night. Potomac’s Ross Detwiler (7-8) picked up the win for the Nationals.
In the midst of their final homestand of the season, the K-Tribe returns to action Tuesday night at Historic Grainger Stadium. Carlton Smith takes the mound at 7pm for Kinston.

Interesting that they let Huff go beyond 5IP after restricting him for the last month.
He was at 81 pitches after 5 (finished with 96) as well, so it's not as if he'd breezed through the frames.
A quick look at the last couple of times out for Huff and he'd thrown 79 & 73 pitches the last 2 times he'd gone 5 innings (with a rain-shortened 1.1IP game inbetween), so it seems unusual that they extended him last night.
Any ideas as to why Tony? Perhaps something to do with the fact that he hadn't pitched since the 10th because of the Bisons oddly scheduled back-to-back off days?
I'm thinking the schedule had something to do with it. But now that his innings are in line, they will let him air it out. Going into last night's game, with three starts left and 130 innings pitched, he had 20 innings to work with over the final 3 starts to reach that threshhold of 150 innings.
So, looks like last nght was the start of a non-restricted pitch/inning count for the final three starts as he seems in-line to fall below 150 innings.
Hi TL,
It is a little OT but I think that Lake county will return home Wed with at least 2 new players. Chisenhall is an obvious choice and Phelps looks ready even with his limited ABs. It will allow them to play Velasquez and Diaz full time as well. Other position players wouldn't surprise me since LC is so bad offensively but those two already look to be too advanced for MV.
Yeah, I mentioned the other day on the Cleveland Fan boards that I believe when Lake County comes home on Wed and MV is done with the All Star break that you'd see Phelps/Chisenhall in LC and Stowell/Putnam in MV. Still awaiting confirmation, but since Chisenhall did not go to the NY Penn All Star game tonight, it seems obvious he is on hi way to Lake County.
My bad for making you be redundant. I don't read Swerb since the only posters on the site that interest me are you and PC who have your own sites. If you are going to tell me you are saving little gems like these for his site, I will have to decide if it's worth my while to wade through the endless bitching for your nuggets of wisdom.
In response to dslewis: After watching Huff in his recent outings, it appears he is working on a backdoor slider. In his outing on 8/18, winds were 16mph. Taking both of these things into consideration, and the fact that both pitchers made continual adjustments as a result on the heavy winds blowing into the batter, pitch count would be higher. A better comparison would be to average total pitches to total innings. It's tough to accomplish setting up your game, practicing new pitches, and shutting down the opposing team in 5 innings. I suspect Huff is maximizing the only opportunities Cleveland has provided him this year!
Good insight Mags, and I agree. Considering how he is getting about five innings a start practically his entire time in Buffalo, to me it makes it even more impressive hoe he has continued to roll along.
