Mills Named Carolina League MVP

KINSTON – Kinston Indian’s first baseman Beau Mills is the 2008 Carolina League MVP. Mills leads the Carolina League with 21 homeruns and 90 RBI. Cleveland’s first round draft pick in 2007, Mills is eighth in the Carolina League with a .293 batting average. Mills is also second in the CL in extra base hits (58), third in hits (141), fifth in slugging percentage (.506) and runs scored (78). Mills is the seventh Kinston player to win the MVP award in the franchises 45 years in the Carolina League. Mills is the first K-Triber to grab Carolina League MVP honors since Jordan Brown did it in 2006.

Joining Mills on the Carolina League’s End of Year All-Stars are Niuman Romero and Luis Perdomo. Romero is the CL’s All-Star second baseman. Romero is fifth in the Carolina League with a .303 batting average. Romero, also a mid-season All-Star, owns the Carolina League’s longest hitting streak of the season at 21 games. Romero has also racked up a career high six home runs, 53 RBI and 101 hits.

Although former K-Tribe closer Luis Perdomo left Kinston for Double A Akron halfway through the season, his performance was impressive enough to garner him end of year honors. Perdomo, also a mid-season All-Star, went 3-1 with a 0.92 ERA and 18 saves in 31 games. Perdomo was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals organization last month and is currently playing for Double A Springfield.

Kinston Athletic Trainer Chad Wolfe rounds out the K-Tribe awards as the Carolina League Athletic Trainer of the Year. The North Carolina resident and ECU graduate is in his second year with the Kinston Indians.
