Indians Officially Sign Haley, Stowell, and House


INDIANS SIGN RHP TREY HALEY

CLEVELAND, OH --- The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed RHP TREY HALEY, their 2nd round selection from the 2008 First-Year Player Draft (76th pick overall).

Haley, 18, went 8-2 w/a 1.55 ERA in 13 games (50IP, 23H, 34BB, 98K) during his spring season this year at Central Heights High School in Nacogdoches, Texas. The 6-4, 190 lb hard-throwing right-hander previously signed a letter of intent to pitch for Rice University. Entering the 2008 First-Year Player Draft Haley was ranked as the 33rd best high school pitching prospect in the draft by Baseball America.

With today’s signings the Indians inked 30 of their 50 selections in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, including each of their selections over the first 16 rounds.

INDIANS SIGN LHP GLENN (T.J.) HOUSE
Went 7-2 w/a 0.82 ERA for Picayune Memorial High School;
Named the 100th Overall Prospect by Baseball America Entering the Draft


CLEVELAND, OH --- The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed LHP GLENN (T.J.) HOUSE, their 16th round selection from the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.

House, 18, went 7-2 with a save and a 0.82 ERA during his senior season at Picayune Memorial High School in Mississippi. The 6-2, 215-pound left-hander also struck out 99 batters while walking just 25 this past year as he was named to the Sun Herald South Mississippi Baseball Team for the second consecutive season. House had previously signed a letter of intent with Tulane University.

Prior to the draft, House was named the 39th best high school prospect by Baseball America and the 100th overall best prospect in the draft. In his junior season at Picayune Memorial he struck out 20 batters in a game and also won a state championship in swimming in 2006. House will report to the Gulf Coast League Indians in the coming days.

INDIANS SIGN RHP BRYCE STOWELL
Went 8-3 w/a 3.26ERA for UC Irvine in 2008

CLEVELAND, OH—The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed RHP BRYCE STOWELL, their 22nd round selection from the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.

Stowell, 21, finished his 2008 sophomore season at UC Irvine going 8-3 w/a 3.26 ERA (88.1IP, 82H, 46R/32ER, 26BB, 101K, .246 avg against) in 16 games/15 starts as he helped the Anteaters advance to the NCAA Super Regionals. The La Habra, CA native finished T30th among all Division I players in the nation in strikeouts (101) and 33rd in strikeouts per 9.0 innings (10.29) while allowing just 26 walks.

Following the season, the 6-2, 205-pound right-hander pitched in the 2008 Cape Cod Summer League going 3-1 with a 2.36 ERA (45.2IP, 32H, 12R/ER, 9BB, 58K) in 9 games/6 starts for the Bourne Braves and was named the 16th best prospect in the Cape Cod League by ESPN.com while also receiving Cape Cod League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 5-12. Stowell’s 58 strikeouts were the 2nd most in the Cape Cod League, while his 2.36 ERA ranked 9th.

Prior to the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft, Stowell was tabbed 21st among Baseball America’s Top 50 college sophomores and was ranked 90th on the Baseball America’s Top 100 overall college prospects. Stowell will begin his professional career with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in the coming days.
