Santana promoted to AA

Carlos Santana has been promoted to AA Akron and is in the lineup batting 6th on Sunday night for the Aeros.
Santanas promotion is a continuation of the Indians policy to challenge their top prospects by exposing them to the pressure of playoff baseball and gives Santana 2 games to get his feet wet at the AA level prior to the start of the post-season.

With this move I have to assume that Chris Gimenez will not be returning to Akron for the postseason.

Wonder if Crowe or Scott Lewis will return for the Akron postseason??

Looks like Santana is being fast-tracked. Could we see him with the big league club sometime in '10? I look for either Martinez or Shoppach to be traded this or the next off-season. Is Gimenez close to being a serviceable back-up? Toregas? If so, I'd be in favor of selling high on Shoppach.

Shoppach will be gone gimenez has had a great year this year I think his stock has risen, plus he brings nice versatility. Toregas is a major league catcher defensively already which is the main thing you look at for a back up. When you get right down to it fasano has been a decent back up, it really seems like he has helped fausto a lot. To not sell high on shoppach would be a major mistake. Santana is very possible by 10, by that time hafners deal would be in its last year and Victor could slide into that DH role

Santana was very impressive in his first two games with the Aeros. He's got that natural quick swing through the strike zone. Has his timing set with a controlled leg cock from both sides of the plate, and looks equally effective from both sides of the plate.

Has a natural swing, and always seems to make solid contact ...even his outs were loud outs ...most going right to the fences, or hard hit liners ...rarely gets cheated in the AB's I witnessed on Sunday and Monday ...looks legit to me.

Has a very strong arm ...and runs with speed around the bases ..looks like a complete package player, and wouldn't be surprised to maybe see him looked at either in the outfield or 3rd base ...in time I bet he could get accustomed to any position ...but looks rough in his movements behind the plate.

Light years behind Wyatt Torregas as far as catching skills go ...but then, few even in the majors are as sound as Wyatt is behind the plate.

Given that we have such excellent talent in Gimenez and Torregas in the system, I would look to move Santana at some point from out behind the plate and on to another spot in the field ...o it sooner rather than later.

Ramirez is still on a normal track which will be to start him in Akron next year and then maybe the last month or two of the season get him to Triple-A. Then in 2010 start the year in Triple-A and be ready for a major league opp sometime mid-to-late 2010.

His unbelievable ability as a hitter is an excellent asset to have because he can stay at catcher, which is a position he is improving on everyday, or his athleticism will allow him to play at third base, first base, or even the outfield down the road. Shapiro made out like a bandit getting him for Blake.
