The Kinston Indians have swept the Carolina League’s Weekly Awards as Matt Brown is the Player of the Week and Kelvin De La Cruz is the Pitcher of the Week in the Carolina League!
K-Tribe outfielder Matt Brown was just announced as the Carolina League Hitter of the Week hitting .457 (16-35) with six runs and 4 RBI last week for Kinston. The Wichita State alum is currently tops in the Carolina League in batting average at .457 and on base percentage (.537). The Oklahoma City native is tied for the league lead in hits (16). Brown led the entire Cleveland Indians Player Development System with a .308 average last year in Low A Lake County.
Kinston starting pitcher Kelvin De La Cruz had a great first week, going 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA and 19 strikeouts over two starts (12 innings). De La Cruz gave up just two earned runs on six hits while walking two batters.
The first player of the week awards in Minor League Baseball go back to Thursday April, 9th (opening day).
