Indians top outfield prospect Matt LaPorta had to be removed from the second game of the Triple-A Columbus Clippers games last night because of tightness in his right mid-section. According to the Indians, LaPorta is okay and was removed for precautionary reasons because of the cold temperatures. He is not expected to be out long, if at all, and is day to day.
In other news, left-hander Ryan Edell was called up from Double-A Akron to fill the vacated spot in the Columbus bullpen left open when righty Vinnie Chulk was promoted to Cleveland. No word yet on who will fill Edell's spot in Akron, though right-hander Carlton Smith seems the best option as he is about ready to come back from his injury.
