Clippers lose lead late

Indianapolis scored a run in each of the first two innings before Columbus tied it up in the bottom half of the second inning. Jordan Brown and Chris Giminez hit two straight singles with one out and then Josh Barfield hit a double, driving in Brown. Stephen Head also hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Giminez.

Indianapolis took the lead again in the top half of the third.

Wilson Valdez led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a walk. Then, with one out, Luis Valbuena doubled to right, scoring Brantley, who reached on a force out at second base, tying the game at three.

In the sixth, the Clippers struck again. With two outs, Chris Giminez left the yard for his first home run of the season, giving the Clippers a 4-3 lead.

Starter Jeremy Sowers (0-1) lasted six innings, allowing eight hits on three runs. He also walked one and struck out four.

In the seventh, Indianapolis would tag Zach Jackson for a run, tying the game up at four.

Matt Herges (1-2) came on in the ninth and allowed two hits and a run, giving Indianapolis a 5-4 lead and ultimately the win.

Luis Valbuena, Jordan Brown, Chris Giminez, and Stephen Head, each had two hits for the Clippers. Josh Barfield also contributed a three hit day.

Bats carry Akron to win

By the bottom half of the third inning, Akron was already in a 3-0 defecit. However, this would quickly change. Josh Rodriguez led off the bottom of the third with a single and John Drennan followed by reaching on a throwing error. Mickey Hall then singled into center field, loading the bases for Jose Constanza. He grounded into a force out, scoring Rodriguez and Drennan.

Akron would pound in five more runs in the bottom of the fourth off the bat of Jose Constanza and a few costly errors.

Josh Rodriguez and John Drennan both drove a run home in the fifth inning, giving Akron a 9-4 lead.

Josh Tomlin (2-1) went five innings, surrendering eight hits on four runs. He would not allow a free pass and struck out eight.

Randy Newsom gave up an unearned run in the ninth, but did not allow further damage, giving Akron a 9-5 victory over Altoona.

Josh Rodriguez had a three-for-three performance on the night.

K-Tribe fall

The game started out promising for the K-Tribe. Tim Fedroff led off the game with a double and then Cord Phelps walked. The hot bat of Lonnie Chisenhall stepped to the plate and crushed a three-run home run to right field, giving Kinston an early 3-0 lead.

Lynchburg tagged Ryan Morris (0-2) for a two-run homer in the second, but still trailed 3-2. Kinston struck back in the bottom of the inning with two outs and Cristo Arnal at the plate. He singled to center field, bringing Tim Fedroff to the plate. Fedroff doubled to left, scoring Arnal. Cord Phelps also singled, driving in Fedroff, giving the K-Tribe a 5-2 lead.

Morris did not make it out of the fourth inning, allowing six runs. He only pitched 3.2 innings, allowing eight runs, four earned, on five hits, while walking three and striking out three. Garrison Campfield came on and also allowed a run, giving Lynchburg a 9-5 lead. The K-Tribe led off the bottom half on the inning with back to back singles off the bats of Cristo Arnal and Tim Fedroff. Matt McBride would later single, scoring Arnal and Fedrofff, cutting the lead to 9-7.

However, this would be all the K-Tribe could produce, as Campfield allowed another two runs in the fifth, giving Lynchburg an 11-7 lead, which later was the final score.

John Allman was injured in the top of the fourth inning. No word yet on the extent of his injury.

Tim Fedroff had a four-for-five night with two doubles and a run batted in and Cristo Arnal also had two hits for the K-Tribe. Former first round pick, Lonnie Chisenhall, continued his offensive explosion going two-for-four with a home run, a double, and three runs batted in. Within the last three games, Chisenhall has hit three home runs, while driving in a remarkable 13 runs.

Captains' bats come alive

The Captains scored six runs on Thursday, defeating Delmarva 6-3.

Karexton Sanchez provided a two-four-four night with a home run and five RBI's. Jeremice Tice also drove in one.

Starter Alexander Perez went five innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Paolo Espino also gave up a run, while earning his first win of the season.
