I don't typically post news and notes on major league guys here, but this is just a quick not that right-handed reliever Rafael Betancourt has been sent to Columbus today and has started his minor league rehab assignment. Rehab assignments in the minors for pitchers can last up to 30 days. He should be in uniform and available tonight.
Also, left-hander Aaron Laffey and right-hander Fausto Carmona have been moved to Columbus to continue their rehabs. Laffey will start tonight for Columbus, while Carmona will start on Sunday.
Also, while I have not been told this and am merely speculating, expect right-hander Hector Rondon to be promoted in the coming days and make his next start sometime next week in Columbus (probably Tuesday July 7th). With John Meloan slated for the spot start in Columbus yesterday, and after he was traded right-hander Brian Grening getting the quick call to fill the short-term void, they will need someone to fill that rotation spot. Conveniently, Rondon pitched on the same night so he can slide right into it. Also, with Rondon leaving Akron, as noted yesterday expect left-hander Bobby Livingston to be signed once Rondon is sent out. All speculation, but a lot of dot connecting on this.
