Lake County Roster Move

I did not mention this yesterday, but Low-A right-handed reliever Eddie Burns has been put on the disabled list with an undisclosed injury. Taking his place on the roster is left-hander Francisco Jimenez who has been promoted from the rookie-level Arizona League team out in Goodyear, AZ.

Jimenez has been interesting to follow in the early parts of the season. Not much is known about him at this time, but he was dominating in the short time he was out in the Arizona League. In five appearances (one start) he allowed just four runs in 16.2 innings (2.16 ERA) and opponents were hitting .237 off him. But the impressive part? 25 stikeouts to just one walk. His ability to pile up those 25 strikeouts in just 16.2 innings (13.5 K/9) to go along with just one walk in those 16.2 innings makes him an intriguing guy to follow the final seven weeks of the minor league regular season (yeah, only seven weeks left, time flies!).

Burns was 2-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 16 appearances at Lake County (34.0 IP, 36 H, 7 BB, 44 K), but had not pitched since July 7th. He was having a very good season, so the injury is shame. Sometimes when an injury has not been disclosed the player was put on the disabled list for personal reasons, so it will be interesting to hear why he is on the disabled list.
