Free Andy Marte!
This is a great move for Ryan...and hopefully Barnes, a lefty, will help the Tribe in a year or two.
For some reason, supposedly Garko was not liked by Wedge or the Tribe front office. At least according to the Beacon Journal's veteran writer Sheldon Ocker.
At least Mark is making moves for additional pitching at a point where the organization's need is acute.
Interesting trade. Felt like the reason they had not called Marte up yet was because they were showcasing Garko for a deadline deal. I like Garko, but we had such a glut there at 1B and he was just a slug on the bases. This opens the door at 1B for Victor to go there full time in 2011 if he resigns and Santana takes over regular duties sometime next season....or it opens the door for Marte, Brown, and LaPorta for regular at bats there.
I think one of Francisco/Shoppach are next, and then we see LaPorta up.
