Around the Farm: October 21

Here is a quick recap of how the players in the Cleveland Indians' system did in fall/winter league action on Thursday October 21st:
  • Jason Kipnis - 3B, Peoria Javelinas: 0-for-4. A forgettable game for Kipnis, and now the 4th time in 7 AFL games he has failed to get a hit. He played his second game at third base and made a throwing error, though again this is strictly just to give him at bats (Dustin Ackley was at 2B).
  • Eric Berger - RP, Peoria Javelinas: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R (0 ER), 3 BB, 1 K. The walk bug found its way back to Berger, but he was able to escape with very little damage. In three AFL outings he has only gone 2.2 innings and has 4 strikeouts but also 4 walks.
  • Chen Lee - RP, Peoria Javelinas: 1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R/ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 1 HR. Lee was handed a 3-2 lead in the 9th inning, but he failed to convert the save and not only was credited with a blown save but the loss as well. His downfall was a two out two-run homer he served up to Brandon Laird.
  • Jared Goedert - 1B, Leones del Caracas: 1-for-3, R, K. Goedert made his debut at first base, a position he may start to see more time at in Columbus and possibly Cleveland this coming season.
  • Ezequiel Carrera - OF, Navegantes del Magallanes: 2-for-4, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 SB. About everything you can ask for from your leadoff hitter with two hits, two runs, and two stolen bases. 4th outfielder candidate in Cleveland next year.
  • Luis Valbuena - 2B, Cardenales de Lara: 1-for-3, BB. Things still tough for Valbuena even in winter ball as in eight games he is hitting .192/.323/.231. This guy is playing himself off the big league roster.
