Around the Farm: October 23

Here is a quick recap of how the players in the Cleveland Indians' system did in fall/winter league action on Saturday October 23rd:
  • Jason Kipnis - 2B, Peoria Javelinas: 1-for-3, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, SB. Kipnis banged out his second homer, and has been productive with 9 RBI now in 8 games played.  He's only hitting .161/.212/.696, but has hit into several loud outs.
  • Adam Abraham - C, Peoria Javelinas: 1-for-4, R, K.  Abraham got a chance to start at catcher with the taxi squad active on Saturday.  He held his own behind the plate and actually threw out one of two attempted base-stealers.
  • Scott Barnes - SP, Peoria Javelinas: 4.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 3 K. Barnes continues to pitch well and has now had one okay outing and two very good ones. He allowed his first two walks in his three starts.
  • Travis Turek - RP, Peoria Javelinas: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R/ER, 0 BB, 0 K. This was only Turek's second appearance as he has seen limited action so far in the first week and a half of the AFL season being on the taxi-squad.
  • Miguel Perez - C, Tigres de Aragua: 1-for-1, 2B, 2 RBI. Perez is the backup catcher on his Aragua teamand has had just six at bats in three games.
  • Luis Valbuena - 2B, Cardenales de Lara: 2-for-3, CS.  You can't stop Luis Valbuena, you can only hope to contain him.  In all seriousness, he has now hit in three straight games and has his hitting line up to .258/.395/.290.
  • Ezequiel Carrera - CF, Navegantes del Magallanes: 0-for-3, BB.  Quiet game from Carrera after going 7-for-14 at the plate in the last three games coming into Saturday night.
  • Jared Goedert - 1B, Leones del Caracas: 0-for-2, 2 BB, K.  Even with the 0-fer, Goedert still got on base via the walk two times.  In 9 games he now has an on-base and slugging percentage both over .450.
  • Jerad Head - LF, Gigantes de Carolina: 1-for-4, 2B, K. The Puerto Rico Winter League kicked off on Friday night, and on Saturday night Head was in action for the second game in a row. In two games he is 1-for-6 with a 2B and BB.
  • Brett Carlin - C, Aguilas Cibaenas: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K. The Dominican Winter League also started up on Friday night, and in the second day of games Carlin got his first game in.
Indians minor league catcher Chun Chen is currently playing for Taiwan in the Intercontinental Cup in Taichung, Taiwan, and will later this offseason plan in the Asian Games out in Guangzhou, China. In his debut on Saturday he went 1-for-3 with a walk and three-run home run. Here are two clips from the game of him hitting that homer and drawing the walk (thanks to Axic for providing):
