The Indians today claimed RHP Jae Kuk Ryu off waivers from the Padres and he has reported to minor league camp. More Triple-A bully depth I guess. The Indians made room for him on the roster by placing RHP Jake Westbrook on the 60-day disabled list. Only 34 players remain in major league camp, and the 40-man roster is full.
Ryu, 25, made 5 starts for AAA Durham (1-2, 4.38 ERA, 24.2 IP, 26 H, 12 ER, 19 K) last year in the Tampa Bay Rays organization before making 1 appearance in relief for the AL champion Rays (1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R). He underwent season-ending arthroscopic elbow surgery in Julybefore being claimed off waivers in January by San Diego. The Seoul,South Korea native owns a minor league career record of 42-34 with a 3.52 ERA in 137 games (114 GS, 672.1 IP, 623 H, 263 ER, 585 K) and has appeared in 28 Major League games with the Cubs and Rays (signed with the Cubs organization in 2001).

not sure I understand this move....would rather have gotten Royce Ring as he's a lefty....
Probably means goodbye Mujica....
Tony: Why are some players optioned directly to a minor league affiliate, and others are simply reassigned to minor league camp? For example, here is the Indians' transactions from a day ago: Reassigned 1Bs Jordan Brown, Beau Mills and Stephen Head, RHP Jack Cassel, SS Jesus Merchan and 3B Wes Hodges to Minor League camp. Optioned 2B Luis Valbuena, LHP Tony Sipp and RHPs John Meloan, Adam Miller and Juan Salas to Triple-A Columbus. Optioned RHP Hector Rondon and C Carlos Santana to Double-A Akron. Thanks.
This is tony...@ airport. Ill explain more later but players on the 40 man roster are optioned to minors and those not on the 40 man are reassigned
"already at the airport....."
Where have I heard that one before???
Have a good flight Tony.
