Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday's performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's game.
Austin Adams - SP, Akron: 6 IP, 2 H, 0ER/R, 1 BB, 6 K, W (1-0). Many think that Austin Adams is a sleeper in the organization. I absolutely thing the folks saying sleeper are insane. Austin Adams is a grade A, blue-chip prospect, and he proved it again today by getting his season off to a flying start. In 2010, his first full season, Adams pitched for both Lake County and Kinston, and spent much of it piggy-backing with Marty Popham. In 112 innings, he went 8-5 overall, with a 2.45 ERA. He struck out 112, and walked only 36 batters. While most folks are focusing on Drew Pomeranz, Joe Gardner and Alex White, this kid may just sneak up on everyone.
- Cord Phelps - 2B, Columbus: 2-for-5, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI. Phelps moves to 2B, with Kipnis DH-ing, and explodes offensively. This is a fantastic sign towards Phelps ultimately being a super-utility guy. It will be interesting seeing this develop throughout the year.
- Bubba Bell - RF, Columbus: 4-for-4, 1 R, 2 2B, 2 RBI. Bell made his first start with the Clippers after getting dealt to the Tribe from Boston. I don't ever see him being a major player with the club, but this is a good initial go at perhaps being relevant in discussions of a fourth outfielder, should the Indians struggle with injuries.
- Zach McCallister - SP, Columbus: 5 IP, 7 H, 4R/ER, 0BB, 5 K. It will be interesting watching the pitching battles in Columbus. There are studs abound in Akron and Kinston who will be chomping at the bit to get to the bigs. Starts like this would make me sweat just a bit, even though he got the win.
- Nick Hagadone - RP?, Akron: 2 IP, 1 H, 0R/ER, 0 BB, 1 K. So, is Nick Hagadone really a relief pitcher? Does his two innings prove that relief is his permanent future, or just a step back to starting? Either way, he was extremely effective. He forced four ground balls, against only one fly ball, and if he's getting hitters to pound balls into the ground, he could be ready for his coming out party.
- Cory Burns - Closer, Akron: 1 IP, 0H, 0R/ER, 0 BB, 3 K. How good is Cory Burns? He's made two appearances, has two saves, has given up one hit overall, and struck out all six batters he's faced. His delivery is insane, and the movement on his pitches should continue to fool everyone. This kid is good, and he continues to prove it.
- Chun-Hsiu Chen - C, Akron: 2-for-3, 1 R. Chen came out of nowhere to become a prospect to watch in this organization. It's good to see his production continue.
- Clayton Cook - SP, Kinston: 5 1/3 IP, 6 H, 2 R/ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 HR. Cook was the hard-luck loser in this game, but still looked good in his first Kinston start. He's still earning his stripes, but continues to look like a solid major league prospect.
- Chris Jones - RP, Kinston: 2 2/3 IP, 3 H, 2R/ER, 2 BB, 3 K. Jones is following up a rather solid 2010 campaign with a dreadful start. It's early yet, but in an organization with so many arms, he better turn the corner quickly.
- Preston Guilmet - closer, Kinston: 1 IP, 1 H, 0R/ER, 1K. He didn't get a save here, but looked good in his first appearance of the season.
- Abner Abreu - CF, Kinston: 3-for-4, 1 R, 2 2B. Abreu has had a solid start to his season, which is far from typical in his past. This could be a make-or-break year for the kid. So far, he's making it.
- Bo Greenwell - LF, Kinston: 2-for-4. Greenwell continues to get on base, and continues to hit well after a solid 2010 season. The key to this year will be to watch and see if Greenwell has better stamina. He really tapered off at the end of last season.
- Alex Monsalve - DH, Lake County: 3-for-4, 1 run, 1 BB, 1 K. Monsalve is a young catcher, and while he's not on the register quite yet as a top prospect, games like this are a good start.
- Jason Smit - RF, Lake County: 3-for-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K. Smit continues his hot-hitting. He's had multi-hit games in all four starts, and is currently 10 for 17, and hitting a torrid .588.
- Giovanny Urshela - 3B, Lake County: 2-for-5, 1 2b. Urshela is nearly as torrid as Smit, with his third multi-hit game out of four total.
- Lake County Staff - Cole Cook and Anthony Dischler both got touched up for 11 R, 10 of them earned. With an offense as monster as theirs has been, this was a big letdown.

Think you overlooked Adams line ... 6inngs 2 hits 1BB and 6Ks.

Adams is mentioned at the very top of the article.
If he turns into a major prospect we could be sitting real pretty by 2013 or even 2012. When you consider everyone pitching in Ctown is under contract until then at the least and White, Pomeranz, Gardner, De La Cruz, Rondon and Adams could be all be vying for a spot in the rotation. So many names I did not even mention either.
