Mike Sarbaugh's young team is making a habit of playing one run games and so far, they've been pretty good at winning them. The Clippers rallied from a four run deficit to defeat Indianapolis 8-7, the third straight win to start the season.
The Clippers are 3-0 for the first time since 1997. Columbus scored three times in the eighth and twice in the ninth to grab a 7-6 lead and set the stage for Josh Judy to earn a save. However, Judy allowed an Alex Pressley homer to tie the game, forcing extra innings.
Jerad Head scored the eventual winning run on a Lonnie Chisenhall grounder. Judy closed out the Indians in the bottom of the inning.
Jason Kipnis picked up three RBIs while Ezequiel Carrera piled up three hits and scored twice.
Alex White, Cleveland's 2009 #1 draft pick, earned a no decision as the Columbus starter, debuting in Triple-A. White allowed two runs from three hits in five innings, striking out six.
The Clippers look to sweep the series Sunday as Zach McAllister makes his first start of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05pm as Indianapolis counters with Daniel McCutchen.

The Akron Aeros gave up two runs in the top of the eighth inning and fell to the Binghamton Mets 4-2 in game three of a four game set today at Canal Park.

Right-handed pitcher Erik Turgeon picked up the win for Binghamton pitching 1.1 perfect innings of relief.
The B-Mets (2-1) got on the board in the top of the third inning against Aeros starter Scott Barnes. Jean Luc Blaquiere walked and was advanced to second on a Jose Coronado sacrifice bunt. He later scored on a Jordany Valdespin double to right. Valdespin came across to score on a Josh Satin RBI single, which gave Binghamton a 2-0 lead.
The Aeros (1-2) battled back in the bottom of the seventh inning off reliever Roy Merritt. Following a Karexon Sanchez walk, a Juan Apodaca single and a wild pitch, Grady Sizemore won a foot race to the first base bag beating first baseman Eric Campbell and driving in Akron’s first run. Later in the inning, Jordan Henry drove in Donnie Webb to tie the game at 2-2.
The B-Mets answered back in the top of the eighth inning scoring two runs to retake the lead 4-2.
Binghamton added two more in the top of the ninth inning and went on to a 6-2 win.
The Aeros and B-Mets wrap up this four-game series tomorrow afternoon at Canal Park. First pitch is at 1:05 p.m.
Kinston Falls in Rain Shortened affair
Rain hit Grainger Stadium for the second consecutive night on Saturday, this time thwarting any late rally the K-Tribe had in its plans. The visiting Winston Salem Dash squeezed out a one run victory 3-2, evening the current series at one game a piece.
Kinston trailed the entire way Saturday night thanks to stellar prospect Jared Mitchell. With one man aboard for the Dash in the first, Mitchell slammed a home run off the scoreboard in right-center field. Indians starting pitcher T.J. McFarland then settled down, at one point retiring seven straight Dash batters, and received some offensive support in the third inning.
Dash starter Andre Rienzo walked Greenwell in the third inning. Greenwell wasted no time in swiping second base for his first stolen base of the season. A single off the bat of Kinston’s next batter, Casey Frawley was enough to plate Greenwell.
Two errors proved costly for McFarland in the fifth inning as the Dash pushed across the deciding run. With two outs, Adam Abraham could not make a play on a grounder that took a bad hop which allowed Dash leadoff hitter Daniel Wagner to reach first. A pickoff move gone bad resulted in a free base for Wagner and an error charged to Kinston first baseman Chase Burnette. Jose Martinez singled home Wagner for Winston Salem’s third run of the night.
Kinston would come back again, using two walks and an error to load the bases with no-outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Chase Burnette delivered an RBI single to cut the lead to one, but Kinston would not score another run. Kinston stranded 10 base runners on the night, five in scoring position.
With heavy rains stopping the contest in the bottom of the eighth, chances ran short for Kinston. Mcfarland took the loss while Rienzo was not eligible for the win, only tossing four innings. McFarland went six innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs. Winston Salem reliever Taylor Thompson held Kinston scoreless for two innings and picked up his first win of the season.
The rubber match for the opening series of 2011 is set for a 1:30 pm start at Kinston’s Grainger Stadium. Clayton Cook will toe the rubber for Kinston while lefty Hector Santiago will start for the Dash.

Smit was at it again in the fourth inning, with Alex Monsalve on second after reaching on a Dean error, Smit collected his second of three hits, an RBI double putting the Captains up 2-0.
With the Loons leading 3-2, in the seventh inning, Jon Garica crushed his first homerun of the season off Dew giving Great Lakes the lead 4-2.
