It was learned a few days ago that Triple-A Columbus right-handed starter Jeanmar Gomez would not be attending the Triple-A All Star game in Salt Lake City, Utah on Wednesday night. The thought was that the Indians were keeping him out of the game in order to call him up shortly after the start of the second half.
That appears to all but be a formality at this point with the announcement that Gomez will now be making a start for short season Single-A Mahoning Valley on Wednesday night. The fact that the Indians are having him make a start on Wednesday in Mahoning Valley instead of attending the Tripe-A All Star game or just making a start when Columbus resumes play on Thursday pretty much shows the Indians are aligning him to make a start this weekend. He is expected to start on Sunday July 17th in Baltimore in place of right-hander Mitch Talbot.

So now the question is whether or not the Tribe is going to DFA Talbot, or send someone down and put Talbot in the pen. Don't know what good what that would do, to be honest. My guess is that Talbot is going bye-bye, but I'll bet you someone picks him up. Whatever the case, Talbot did give us a season of innings, which is more than many others...so there's that...
