Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday's performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's game.
Alex Lavisky - C, Mahoning Valley: 2-5, R, HR, RBI, K. Since being demoted in the lineup, Lavisky has been tearing the cover off the baseball. In his past ten games, he's hitting .316 with 2 doubles, 3 home runs, and has driven in 5. Also during that time span, he has a .381 OBP/.605 SLG/.986 OPS. Fans have been anxious to see Lavisky break out of what has seemed to be a year long slump. We may finally be starting to see what the young catching prospect is capable of. - Jason Kipnis - 2B, Columbus: 0-5, 2 K. On the other end of the spectrum, Kipnis has been struggling mightily at the dish, hitting just .125 in his past ten games. That also includes a .186 OBP/.225 SLG/.411 OPS. He may need a day or two off to regroup.
- Jason Donald - 3B, Columbus: 2-4, R, 2B, K. One of the last remaining options in Columbus for Cleveland to use is Donald, who was slated to be the Indians starting third baseman on Opening Day, had it not been for an injury. Don't be surprised if you see him in Cleveland before long.
- Tim Fedroff - CF, Columbus: 1-3, RBI, BB, SB. While Fedroff is deemed by everyone as a fourth outfielder, he continues to prove that he has a consistent bat and some speed on the bases to push for that utility outfield spot down the road.
- Zach Putnam - RP, Columbus: IP, H. Putnam is all but major league ready and waiting for the call up.
- Beau Mills - DH, Akron: 1-4, K. What a rebound season for Mills, who is now hitting .301 on the season with 1o homers and 47 runs driven in. Keep in mind, he missed the whole first month of the season too!
- Drew Pomeranz - SP, Akron: (L, 0-1) 5 IP, 3 H, ER/R, 2 BB, 6 K. Another great outing turned in by Pomeranz who allowed one run on three hits in five innings of work. He deserved a much better fate than the 'pen gave him.
- Eric Berger - RP, Akron: 2 IP, H, BB. The 'stache strikes again and turned in two quality innings for the Aeros bullpen in relief of Pomeranz.
- Adam Miller - RP, Akron: 2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER/R, 2 K. The once dominant prospect has been incredibly inconsistent this season and one can only hope he can put it back together.
- Adam Abraham - 3B, Kinston: 2-4, R, 2B, RBI, 2 K. For what has been a struggling K-Tribe offense for much of the season, Abraham's batting average may not look incredibly sexy. However, he's been a consistent run producer night in and night out.
- Preston Guilmet - CP, Kinston: (W, 1-1) 2 IP, H, 4 K. His dominance continues this season and he's beginning to rise as a legitimate relief prospect.
- Jordan Casas - LF, Lake County: 2-5, R, 2B, 2K. After struggling much of the season last year, Casas has rebounded nicely this year with Lake County.
- Alex Monsalve - C, Lake County: 2-4, BB, K. After Lavisky's demotion, Monsalve has received the great bulk of playing time behind the plate and hasn't disappointed.
- Cole Cook - SP, Lake County: (L, 4-10) 4 IP, 7 H, 5 ER/R, 2 K, 4 HR. You read that right, folks; he gave up FOUR home runs. An incredibly disappointing season for Cook, a former fifth round selection.
- Tony Wolters - SS, Mahoning Valley: 2-4, 2 2B, RBI, BB, K. After struggling at the plate the past few games, Wolters rebounded nicely with two doubles.
- Jordan Smith - 3B, Mahoning Valley: 1-3, 2 BB. This kid has been raking all season long and props to our scouting department for drafting him.
