Beau Mills: DH, Akron Aeros: 3-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI:
There isn't a fan of the Cleveland Indians that isn't hoping that Beau Mills has regained the form that made the Tribe's #1 draft pick in 2007. When Mills hit .293, with 21 homers and 90 RBI in 2008 for Kinston and was named the Carolina League MVP, he seemed a sure thing to reach the majors by 2010, or 2011 at the latest. Unfortunately for Mills, his average, home runs and RBI total dropped in both 2009 and 2010, both in Akron and he essentially fell of the prospect map. Mills started the 2011 season off on the DL with Achilles tendonitis, and when he came back, he found himself back with Akron for a third straight season. Apparently, the third season is the charm. In his past three, he's 5-10, with three runs, two homers, five RBI, two walks, and only 1 K. Overall, Mills is hitting .281, with seven homers and 38 RBI. Welcome back Mr. Mills.

Jesus Aguilar: 1B, Lake County: 3-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI:
Aguilar has hit some towering blasts this season that have been difference-makers this season. Last night, he went a different route, hitting a bases-loaded single to drive in two runs and tie the game at two. Kinston would go on to win 6-4. It really doesn't get much better than Aguilar over his last three games. He's gone 7-12, with three runs, two doubles and two RBI, and has raised his average to .294 on the year. He still strikes out a bit too much, but clearly this is a part of his game that can be worked on over the next three seasons, as he moves through the system.
- Juan Diaz: SS, Akron: 3-5, 2 R: Diaz continues to carry a hot bat, currently on a eight-game hitting streak. The other player in the Russell Branyan trade with Ezequiel Carrera may just have more upside. The 6'4", 200 lb, 22-year-old shortstop is still learning how to hit. He's clearly figuring things out, and if the power develops, as it could with his big frame, he could explode onto the prospect scene. He's an intriguing player for sure.
- Raul Padron: 1B, Akron: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K: Padron signed on with Akron two weeks ago as catching insurance for the Tribe thanks to injury issues. In the 11 games he's played since then, he's run up a stat line of .333/.419/.500. He's currently on a five-game hit streak in which he's gone 7-18 with four runs, a homer and eight RBI. I'd say he was a good signing.
- Joe Gardner: 5 2/3 IP, 5 H, 3 R/ER, 3 BB, 5 K, W (6-6): Gardner got his sixth win of the season, but is still struggling to find the magic that he had in his breakout season in 2010. In his last five starts, he's gone 2-1, but he's giving up a whopping 14 ER in 26 2/3 innings for a 4.72 ERA.
- Tyler Sturdevant: RP, Akron: 1 2/3 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K: Sturdevant continues to rack-it-up in Akron. His 4.22 ERA is misleading. He gave up five earned runs in his July 1st appearance, but hasn't given up any in his other five, in 8 2/3 IP.
- Cory Burns: Closer, Akron: 1 2/3 IP, 2 H, 1 K, S (25): Burns goes nearly two innings in his latest save opportunity, and has familiar results. How good is Burns? in 2009, Burns had 11 saves for Mahoning Valley. In 2010, he had 42 saves for Lake County (12) and Kinston (30). He currently has 25. His ERA during that time period? How about 2.03. That's not too bad.
- Adam Abraham: 3B, Kinston: 1-2, 1 R, 2 BB: Abraham has a four-game hit streak in which he's gone 5-13, with five runs, two homers and three RBI. His ten game stat line is .323/.447/.581.
- Jeremie Tice: 1B, Kinston: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K: Tice is on a seven-game hit streak in which he's hitting .333. There's no doubt that Tice can hit the ball, but there's barely any power to go along with it.
- Clayton Cook: SP, Kinston: 4 IP, 10 H, 8 R/7 ER, 1 BB, 1 HR, L (6-6): In May and June, Cook may have been the most consistent starter for Kinston. Unfortunately, July happened. In his two July starts, Cook has pitched in five total innings, giving up 12 hits, 10 runs, 9 earned runs, two homers and two walks, while only striking out three. A 16.2 ERA just won't get it done.
- Trey Haley: RP, Kinston: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R/ER, 1 BB, 2 K: As I tweeted yesterday, Haley made his first appearance for the K-Tribe in the bullpen even though he took Drew Pomeranz's roster slot. It wasn't a perfect outing for the 21-year-old, but he did get his feet wet. This kid has an electric arm, and could develop into a top reliever.
- Kyle Landis: RP, Kinston: 1 IP, 1 K: How good has Landis been for Kinston? In 14 appearances, he's only given up runs in one game. He's currently riding a 9 1/3 IP stretch without giving up a run.
- Carlos Moncrief: RF, Lake County: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B: Moncrief is 5-14 in his past three games, and hit lead-off last night even with LeVon Washington in the lineup (batting second). He's only batting .226 for the seasons, but there are signs of him coming out of the season-long slump.
- Alex Monsalve: DH, Lake County: 1-2, 1 R, 2 BB: Monsalve is on fire, going 6-11 in his last three games, and has a stat line of .368/.429/.474 in his past ten games. To top it off, he's starting to become more selective at the plate, with four walks and only 6 K's during the ten game stretch.
- Bryce Stowell: RP, Lake County: 1 2/3, 4 K: Well, I don't know when exactly you look at a guy's stats and say, "Okay, he's back," but you have to figure that this perfect outing may be exactly that. He's struck out seven in his last three innings pitched. Some thought this kid was the best relief pitcher in the system as he headed to Columbus last year. He may just be returning to form. He has a long road back to Columbus, but he's closer than ever to promotion.
- KC Serna: 3B, Mahoning Valley: 2-4, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K: Serna led-off as Bryson Myles missed his third straight game with a sore wrist. He responded with a big game, scoring half of the Scrappers total runs.
- Jake Lowery: C, Mahoning Valley: 2-3, 1 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 2 BB: Lowery has nine doubles and four homers in 20 professional games. This kid can hit, and hit with power. I'm looking forward to seeing how it translates to the higher levels of the system.
- Cody Elliott: CF, Mahoning Valley: 3-3, 1 3B, 1 BB: While Elliott's only hitting .238 for the season, he's hitting the ball much better of late with a .286 average over his last ten games.
