2011 Draft: Indians watching Pitts, Embree still waiting

Cole Pitts
32nd round pick right-handed pitcher Cole Pitts is still weighing his options to sign with the Indians or to attend Georgia Tech this fall. It will take a considerable offer from the Indians to land him, so it looks like he is college bound. That said, the Indians appear to be interested in pursing negotiations as they recently had both his area scout and a crosschecker watch him pitch in a Middle Georgia Titans game where he pitched six innings and allowed three hits while piling up 11 strikeouts. Director of Amateur Scouting Brad Grant is expected to see him pitch soon in Panama City, Florida, which is a sign that real interest is there by the Indians. The Indians could be showing some late interest because of some noteworthy improvements in his pitching this year, most notably his fastball velocity jumping from 89 MPH to 93 MPH.

Remember how about a month ago 47th round pick outfielder Corey Embree expected to sign very soon? Well, according to this recent report he has yet to receive a contract offer from the Indians. The intent to sign still appears to be there for Embree, so it still looks like when August 15th passes there is a decent chance he will be signed.
