Notes on Offense:

3-Up:

July has been a good month for the heart of the Captains line-up. Alex Monsalve (.366), Jesus Aguilar (.359), and Giovanny Urshela (.311) are pacing the team in average, homeruns (four), and RBI (15). Hopefully, these three can continue their success through September.

Kevin Fontanez has been a breath of fresh air to the Captains line-up. Recently promoted from Mahoning Valley, Fontanez has hit .250 in four games. He has also driven in two runs and scored two as well. He spent last season with the Scrappers and hit .199 with a homerun and 13 RBI. Fontanez was hitting .211 with the Scrappers this season at the time of his promotion on the 9th.

Shortstop Ronny Rodriguez has continued to improve in the batter's box. Rodriguez hit .269 this week. If he continues to get better each week, his average might hit .250 by the end of the month.

3-Down:

LeVon Washington has been dropped from the lead-off spot to the number two hole in the line-up. Carlos Moncrief has taken over duties as the Captains lead-off hitter.

The Captains struck-out 59 times this week in seven games. An average of eight per game. Jesus Aguilar led the team with 12 K's, with Carlos Moncrief (nine) and LeVon Washington (nine) were just behind.

The Captains were no-hit on July 8th.

Hitter of the Week: Alex Monsalve

Notes on Pitching:

3-Up:

Dale Dickerson (2.1), Bryce Stowell (1.2) and Kyle Petter (1.1) combined for 5.1 scoreless and hitless baseball in relief striking out seven on the 11th versus Lansing.

Bryce Stowell has continued to be solid out of the 'pen for the Captains. In eight games, Stowell has a 1.84 ERA in 14.2 innings. He has struck out 20 and has only walked eight. Stowell got a late start to the 2011 season because of personal reasons. It appears that everything is back on track for the prospect.

In his second start of the week, Cole Cook picked up the win versus the Peoria. Cook lost the first game he started, but it was not his fault. He went five innings, scattered six hits, and allowed two runs to score (one run was earned). Lately, Cole has been the ace of the Captains staff with the struggles of Mike Rayl and Goodnight.

3-Down:

Mike Rayl lost only his third game this season. In the process, he gave up a season high five runs (all earned), and eight hits in five innings of work.

Cole Cook was the tough-luck loser in the second game of the July 8th double header. The Captains were no-hit in the game and Cook only gave up one unearned in six innings.

Nick Sarianides’ struggles continued in the second half of the season suffering the loss on Saturday. Nick allowed three runs, two earned on three hits, no walks and two strike outs.
