The Aeros made a roster move today, as the Cleveland Indians signed IF Kyle Haines and assigned him to Akron. The move brings the Aeros back to the roster limit of 24 active players.
Haines began his professional career with the San Francisco Giants as a 34th-round pick out of Eastern Illinois in 2004. He spent all of last year with the Connecticut Defenders here in the Eastern League, batting .261 with no homers and 43 RBI in 105 games while playing both second base and shortstop. Haines was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the minor league portion of the Rule V Draft this off-season, but was released in spring training. He signed with the Camden Riversharks of the independent Atlantic League and was hitting .253 with no homers and seven RBI in 26 games. His older brother Andy Haines is the manager of the Jamestown Jammers (Florida Marlins, New York-Penn League).
