In the 26th round, the Cleveland Indians select: RHP Antwonie Hubbard - University of Oklahoma, 6'3" 205 lbs.
UPDATE (6:38 PM EST): Jeff Ellis
Antwonie Hubbard is a right handed pitcher from Oklahoma. He was previously drafted by the Rays in the 12th round out of high school. Hubbard is a draft eligible sophomore. Hubbard suffered a stress fracture in his leg so he was extremely limited this year. He only made 9 starts, but did well in the Regional Final striking out seven. He is a big kid at 6’3” and 243 pounds. He actually red shirted twice while at Oklahoma missing his freshman year due to a medical hardship redshirt and then redshirting the next year and only made 10 appearances. Even though he has been at Oklahoma since 2007 he has only made a combined 18 appearances in three years due to injury. In the summer of 2008 he pitched in the Alaska Baseball League Championship and was ranked the 4th best spec by PGcrosschecker and 5th best by BA. So this is another high risk type of pick for the Indians. The advantage here is that Hubbard’s age will start hurting him soon, so he might be tempted to take the money and begin his career now.
