In the 19th round, the Cleveland Indians select: LHP Nicholas Kirk - University of Northern Iowa, 6'0" 195 lbs.
UPDATE (5:27 PM EST): Jeff Ellis
Nick Kirk is a very signable left hander from Northern Iowa. He is the rare college senior, and the reason he had to return for his senior year was an injury that affected his pitching his junior year. He was rated the 4th best player in the state of Iowa by Baseball America. He has a high 80’s/ low 90’s fastball. The fastball has good sink to it, which has been something a lot of the Indians starting pitching in this draft have had in common. He isn’t dominant but he throws strikes and keeps the ball down. You can never have enough lefties in your minor league system, especially ones who throw strikes consistently.
