Tribe acquires Veras from Yankees

The Indians have announced they have acquired RHP Jose Veras from the Yankees for cash considerations. Veras is expected to join the Tribe later this week, most likely on Friday when the Indians return to Cleveland to face the Reds. It is unclear who the Indians will move from the active roster to make room for Veras. This year, the 28-year old Veras made 25 appearances with the Yankees, going 3-1 with a 5.96 ERA. He walked 14 and struck out 18 in 25 2/3 innings of work.

Hey, at this point...why not try ANY pitcher with a functioning arm.

Here's a novel idea....how about we stop making the same moves/mistake over and over and over again and instead try something different. Like give one of the young kids in AAA/AA who are ready or near ready a shot at the bigs or moving up to AAA to get that shot later in the year at ML?

Tony...Supposedly the Indians feel there is NOBODY at AAA or AA that are close to being ready for the majors (other than the journeymen).

It gives me no joy to realize the Indians organization is in a bad place: a horrible big league season (was bad BEFORE the injurries) and a minor league organization with very, very, very few blue-chip pitching prospects....at least in their full-season minor league teams.

Sad. Thus, many are calling for the Dolan's to clean house...and start with Mark. It's a shame, but that might be the best move.

It's not as bad as it looks. Certainly at least for this season it is, but next year they have many pieces in place to get right back into the thick of things.

Farm system was a Top 10 system going in, and really, everyone save for two players (Rivero/Meloan) have performed well and grown. System is getting better.

I agree though that there is not a lot of immediate blue chip pitching ready for next year, guys like Colon/Sabathia from years past. That said, I see a lot of Cliff Lee/Jake Westbrook arms as good MOR starters coming through and ready soon. And, I still think they trade this some of this surplus of bats for some arms. And DeRosa hopefully brings back a high level arm or two.

I need to see where things are at at season's end....but going in I felt like 2010 would be our year and this would be a season of transition, and so far it has played out that way (though I did not expect the pitching staff to implode like it has).
