Around the Farm: September 12

Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday's performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's (playoff) game.

Chase Burnette – LF, Lake County: 3-for-4, 3 R, 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI
Burnette pretty much single-handedly kept the Captains in the game with his three extra base hits and ten total bases.  He initially struggled when he was first called up to Lake County at the end of August hitting .185/.214/.370 with 1 HR and 2 RBI in eight games, but since the playoff lights have gone on he is hitting .364/.417/1.000 in four games.  He has picked right up where he left off at short-season Single-A Mahoning Valley where he hit .274/.312/.456 with 8 HR and 28 RBI in 64 games.  Going forward he needs still needs to refine his approach at the plate (14 BB, 64 K), but his power is intriguing.
  • Delvi Cid – OF, Lake County: 2-for-5, R, 2 RBI, 2 2B. More steals for the minor league stolen base king.
  • Casey Frawley – SS, Lake County: 2-for-4, 2 2B, RBI. One of the key cogs all season for the Captains, and for a player his size has shown to have surprising power and a run producer.
  • Adam Abraham – 3B, Lake County: 1-for-3, R, HR, RBI, BB, K. Another productive day adding to a very good second half finish for the Michigan product.
  • Jason Smit – 1B, Lake County: 2-for-4, 2 R. Hitting .417 in playoffs and looks healthy again since return from hamstring injury.
  • Giovanni Soto – LHP, Lake County: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R/ER, 5 BB, 4 K, HR. In his two starts since coming back from triceps strain has looked rusty and tired.
  • Lake County bullpen: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R (3 ER), BB, 4 K, HR. The combination of LHP Francisco Jimenez, RHP Taka Nakamura, and RHP Jeremy Johnson are unable to pick up struggling Soto.
