Around the Farm: September 18

Low-A Lake County is the only Indians’ minor league affiliate in action at the moment, and after last night's 7-3 win in Game 3 of their best-of-five series with Clinton, they lead the series two games to one. They can clinch the Midwest League title tonight with a win in Game 4 at Classic Park.

Here is a quick look "Around the Farm" at yesterday's Lake County performance. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's (playoff) game.

Tyler Holt – DH, Lake County: 2-for-2, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, SB.
Holt was the firestarter in almost every Captains rally on the night getting on base in all four plate appearances and scoring three of the four times he was on base. He had a .409 on-base percentage in 22 regular season games, and it has continued into the postseason as in 9 playoff games is getting on at a .395 clip. Normally the tablesetter, he even cleared the table by hitting his first professional home run in the 6th inning which pretty much ended any doubt in the game that it would be a Captains victory.
  • Jason Smit – 1B, Lake County: 1-for-3, R, HR, RBI, BB, 2 K. Went back-to-back with Folgia in the second to push Captains lead to 4-0. Tied for team lead with two home runs in playoffs.
  • Greg Folgia – RF, Lake County: 2-for-4, R, HR, RBI, K. Captains' top RBI man in the playoffs with 7 RBI in nine games, and has come up with some big throws from right field.
  • Brett Brach – SP, Lake County: 6.2 IP, 7 H, 1 R/ER, 0 BB, 9 K, HR. Brach comes up big in pivotal Game 3 with his best outing of postseason. In 3 starts now 1-0 with 3.45 ERA with 2 BB and 17 K in 15.2 IP.
  • Mike Rayl – RP, Lake County: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R/ER, BB, 3 K, HR. Only low point of evening in an otherwise near-perfect team performance.
  • Preston Guilmet – RP, Lake County: 0.2 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Comes into the game in the 9th inning and finishes out another win without allowing a run and racked up another strikeout. What else is new?
Just a quick reminder, Triple-A Columbus is not done with their season yet as they have one final game on Tuesday night versus Pacific Coast League champion Tacoma in the Triple-A Championship Game in Oklahoma City, OK. This game will be televised nationally on Versus at 8:00PM EST.
