Lake County defeated Clinton on Saturday night 7-3, putting themselves one win from the Midwest League Championship. The Captains will try and wrap things up Sunday night at 6:30PM at Classic Park in Game Four.
Coming off a heartbreaking defeat two nights ago and the series locked up at one a piece the Captains took advantage of some first inning walks from L’Kings’ starter Tom Wilhelmsen. Adam Abraham drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to right and a second run on a two out single by Chase Burnette giving the Captains a 2-0 lead.
Lake County got back to back solo home runs in the second inning from Jason Smit and Greg Folgia to open the lead up to 4-0. Tyler Holt his his first professional home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and the two-run shot to left field put Lake County up 7-1.
Brett Brach anchored a stellar team effort in his third postseason start for his first win in the playoffs. Brach tossed 6.2 innings scattering seven hits and just one run, not allowing a walk and striking out a career high nine.
The Captains bullpen stayed strong like it has all post-season long. Mike Rayl pitched 1.2 innings giving up just two runs on one hit, a two run home run in the ninth, finishing with three strike outs. Preston Guilmet got the final two outs in the ninth to finish the deal for Lake County.
Clinton’s Wilhelmsen took his first lost of the playoffs fiving up five runs on six hits, walking five and striking out four.
Lake County with a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series will try and wrap up the Midwest League Championship in Game Four Sunday night at 6:30PM at Classic Park. The Captains will start LHP Vidal Nuno (1-1) and will matched up against RHP Talyor Stanton (0-1) for the L’Kings.
