Pestano Called Up To Cleveland

Triple-A Columbus right-handed pitcher Vinnie Pestano has been called up to Cleveland for the final week and a half of the season. He closed out the game last night for Columbus in their 12-6 win for the Triple-A Championship and got the news shortly after the game. In 57 combined appearances at Double-A Akron and Columbus he went 2-3 with a 1.81 ERA and 17 saves (59.2 IP, 47 H, 16 BB, 77 K). Since he is currently not on the 40-man roster and the roster is currently full at 40 players, a roster move will need to be made to create space for him. No word yet on what that move will be.

The Indians will also likely be calling up a few more players, though no official word on that at the moment. Two who look to be near certain callups are right-handed reliever Jess Todd and outfielder Ezequiel Carrera as both are on the 40-man already and would fill a need. With injuries to Jason Donald and Asdrubal Cabrera, the Indians also suddenly have a need for a utility infielder. The preferred choice would be infielder Josh Rodriguez, but if they do callup an infielder I think they actually end up calling up infielder Argenis Reyes. Both Reyes and Rodriguez are not on the 40-man roster, so another roster moved would need to be made to create space in order to add them.

Last, High-A Kinston catcher Chun Chen has been selected to the national team for Taiwan to play in the Asian Games. This is an important selection as by being added to the team his military committment is lopped from two years to just 12 days. In 110 games between Low-A Lake County and Kinston he hit .315 with 12 HR, 69 RBI, and a .924 OPS.
